Another trip in may

Hello fellow woodsmen Papabear here and yes we are having another outing in our Face Book group
This time we are going to Tennessee.
Now it will start in May the 17th go till the 20th 4 sweet days of fellowship with like minded folks and i know most if not all them and they are great people, you will not hear nothing negative from them they are all looking to help grow our experiences in the woods.
I can hardly wait i may have to take an outing to the woods before then, yes the mountains are calling me again.
A little update on my snapsack i have about got the seams sewed up on it have not figured out how i want the strap yet but have been thinking on it, Today though i had to do some yard work, and will get back on it tomorrow if possible.
I  am also looking for a place here close to me in Georgia or Tennessee, that sales leather cheaper than Taney leather  if you know of a place let me know. Well that is about all i got for you today God Bless you and watch ur top notch.

What I Been Doing And What I have Planed

Sorry fellow Woodsmen and Women, that i don't post more on this page i have so much going on right now with my new found hobbies of leather craft, I am enjoying it very much have been making gear that i could never afford before, But right now I am sewing a Snapsack together out of duck canvas and i am sewing this all by hand seeing my sewing machine as not worked for a long time lol.
If you don't know what a snapsack is back in the 17th and 18th century folks would things that they needed what traveling through the woods of while just roaming around today we have knapsacks or sling bags.
The solders use to carry them and some times they would wrap their bed roll around them and sling them over there shoulders with this they may also carry a haversack with things they may have to get to quickly some even carry their shooting bag and powder horn, if they did not use there haversack as a shooting bag.
Now you may ask why do you need one well i am thinking if i make one my bed roll can be around it and in side my role i would have extra clothing, in the bag it self if i choose to use my hammock it would fit in there along with my under quilt of course the tarp would be with my wool blanket rolled around the bag that would take care of my sleeping and cover.
Now for other things in the bag seeing it is 3' long i can put my pot in it for cooking and boiling water, an extra fire kit. extra knife some duck tape and some bank line, and my sewing kit. now that i started dehydrating my meals and they can be made smaller by this process i can put that in there also. the best part of this is i can not over pack so it will make me take less gear and be liter on my back.
Now on my belt i will have my belt pouch fixed blade knife and a pistol. in the belt pouch i plan to carry extra ammo and maybe a pocket knife or carver, my compass if not around my neck and my main fire kit with some tinder, my fire kits have a flint and steel in it and a ferro rod, plus a burning glass, and lighter and a couple candles.
In my haversack i will carry my first aid kit a small saw, my tomahawk on the outside, my medicine, a map, fishing kit and snares.
What do y'all think let me know.
Papabear.

Foot wear

Hey my Friends i have been trying to learn leather craft one so i can make my own gear, but also want to get into some American Indian, and Long hunter, and 17 and 18 century trapping reenactment.
Really thinking of doing this with maybe a friend or family member, I seen years ago on the box that everyone stares at every day, a show about a group of friends that did this every hunting season, they carried with them coffee beans, Bacon, and i think some dried beans of some kind.
For firearms they had black powder rifles some were flintlock smooth bore and some percussion cap, ether way would be fun.
Some had long bows and recurves bows but i was thinking about a atlatl and some darts, plus my black powder rifle.
Now this hunting season about December i want to go out and do like a modern long hunter, trapping outing.  By Georgia law i have to carry a 22 Cal. weapon with me to dispatch my catch, so really on this trip i will have no other choice but go modern, but i will get as close to the time period as i can.
Also thinking of getting me some canvas to make a tarp out of for my shelter most likely lean to form, I think the tomahawk was the choice of chopping tool so i will carry it, and my Old Hickory butcher Knife.
Now if anyone would like to join me you are welcome to do so plus if you have any thoughts on what i have been talking about please comment and let me know what you think i am open to new ideas.
So God Bless you all and keep your powder dry till next time.  The Georgia Woodsmen.
